FISHING REPORT, 5/17/10

Last evening we had aboard the Levine charter. We had three generations aboard. Grandfather, father and two sons. Bass fishing was still good despite some slow reports during the day. We landed striped bass to a high of 38". And guess who landed it. Their grandfather still knows how to land the big ones. After some photos, he wanted to release it to fight another day, and that is exactly what we did. It swam away but left a big smile behind. Bluefish were mixed in again as usual. The water temp. was up to 63.1 degrees on a flat calm bay in the sun. But that is only surface temps. and the fish are still coming up cold to the touch. The fishing is only going to improve from here on. Get in on what I believe to be one of the best spring striper runs in quite a few years. My reports and photos seem to be proving that.

    Available dates to charter in May are: 24, 25, 26, 27, 30. Early June: 1, 2, 3, 6.

We are definately into the stripers big time. The stripers are coming into the bay and all the rivers. Thursday we had aboard, Flounder Bob, the famous Bluefish Bob, the nearly not so famous Bad Luck Bob, and Tommy No Mako. It was not a killer charter. Fishing was a little slow, but we landed bass to 32". And plenty of bluefish. The same story was on tap for the Bill Benedict charter on Friday. But at least 6 stripers were landed for a high of 34". Vinegar Ron had one of the largest bass. The evening trip had Anthony Bak and his buddy Patrick out for a bass trip. Action for constant Action, it ws probably the best trip of the season. You all know Capt. Rich fishes away from the crowd. And last evening before the thunderstroms, we were all by ourselves, it was flat calm.  Anthony and Patrick landed  over 20 fish before the storms chased us in. Anthony basically had a striper on all the time. They even got a little tired, so  the Captain had to take a shot and landed his first striper of the season, probably his last fish he'll land this year. It was non stop, constant action and very few of the fish were bluefish. Today we had aboard the Phong family charter. A full compliment of six anglers. We had a super catch of 10 striped bass mostly between 32 and 37 inches, up to 18 lbs.  Only one was a smaller bass at 29", plus bass were released. The fish were so huge we could not fit any more in my large cooler. You all know it, it is behind the engine box, so we ended the day a little early. They took the fish , including a pile of bluefish off the boat in carts. Despite the very rough weather they had a super day. ANY ONE WANT TO GO STRIPER FISHING ????????????

O.K. Dates open to charter are: May 24, 25, 26, 27, 30. Please call for June dates as they are filling up quickly. 908-472-2684

After three days of no fishing due to the very high winds this weekend, the "Just One More" was back on the bass grounds yesterday. The day started a little slow due to the fish not being in the two spots we previously landed all those keepers. The water was too cold, in the high 40's. With a little searching, the Chris Wagner charter nearly limited with another good catch of striped bass. Fish were landed to a high of 34" and 15 lbs.!  Other hits were missed and we landed some slammer bluefish as well. We also had some other bite offs due to the big blues. It seems most of the stripers are keepers now as we did not release any shorts. The water temp. is still cold, only a high of 53.2 degrees yesterday. But the bite is back on after all that wind. Time to catch some stripers!!

    Dates available to charter are: May 18, 24, 25, 26, 27, 30 [Sunday].

Yesterday we had aboard the Shawn Henderbrant charter and a full compliment of his friends. There is no way getting around it, we had a slow day. We landed only 2 striped bass to a high of 30" and a bunch of bluefish. The water seemed like the dead sea. We did 4 drops with the anchor, from the ocean to the back of the bay. In the back, we had no current at all and very dirty water. No current, nothing. We only landed one bluefish back there. But we had a  great time.l

And........today, we had aboard Todd and his four other friends. We landed a full limit of stripers to a high of 15 lbs.!! The front coming through definately helped!! Bluefish were landed up to 6 lbs. . So, the "Just One More" had a glitch in her record of full limits, but the bite is back on!!. It is the time to go! The water conditions look better and the bass will be coperating!!

The following weekend is open for a charter, May, 15, 16. Saturday and Sunday.

Today we had aboard the Clarence Burshnic charter from Burshnic Builders. After eight staraight days of limits, we had a slighlty slower day. We nearly had a limit for four anglers but came up a little short. We landed striped bass to a high of 36" and a weight of 18 lbs. More shorts we released and more hits missed. A few bluefish were landed also and some kept. Clarence had the big bass on our second stop. Water temps are rising with a high of 55.2 degrees near the ocean. I believe the fishing was off a little due to the storms and rain, and runoff on Monday. The water was stained and a little murky. It should be fine by tomorrow. The bass season is only starting!!

Dates open to charter are: May 15, 16, 17, 18, 24, 25, 26. We are all filled up for the next open boat trip.
