JUST ONE MORE REPORT, APRIL 1, 2010

Happy April Fool's Day !! Today may be a day for jokes, but it will be less than one week, and the "Just One More" will be back in the water. That is no joke!! That is when it is time to get serious about striped bass fishing. Stripers are being caught down the back of the bay in the Keansburg area, like Pebble Beach as well as in the Keyport area and other locations. Keepers are being landed as well as shorter bass. With all the nice weather that is predicted for the next week, I think the water temps. will rise and turn the stripers on the feed. Winter flounder are being caught up to 15" in the Shrewsbury river as well as other locations in the back bay. Any one who wants to try for winter flounder can fish for them at the same time as the striped bass. Many times early in the season, we are getting small hits on the large striped bass clam baits, as these are flounder who can't take such a large hook. We could possibly even limit out with both species.

FIRST OPEN BOAT TRIP OF THE SEASON............will be Tuesday, April 13. Full day striped bass fishing. 7am to 2pm. Everything included as usual. Bring a family member or friend to fish with. $100.00 per head. You must call to reserve your spot on the boat. 908-472-2684  Let's shake off that cabin fever feeling and catch some striped bass !!!

Charter bookings in general are picking up with prime dates being snapped up quickly. Don't wait too long to get the date you want. With a few better reports in the near future things will really be busy. Don't forget, the "Just One More" economic stimulous plan has kicked in this season with lower prices !!!!! Full day prices are down to $500.00 for up to 4 anglers, and half day / evening prices slashed to $400.00 for the same amount of anglers. I hope to be fishing with you again soon.

Welcome Aboard !

March 1st. is here already, and the "Just One More" will be back in the water in one month. The big splash will be April 1, [no joke] and we will start fishing for winter flounder and striped bass right away. I already heard of some small stripers being caught in the Sea Bright surf this week. It won't be long now, so book early to get your choice date.

National Saltwater Angler Registry Fact update by your Capt.: If you fish for striped bass, herring, and shad you need to register to avoid getting a fine. If you only come fishing on the "Just One More" or any other charter boat, or party boat, you do not have to be registered. That boat will be registered to cover all anglers on board. But if you go striped bass fishing on a friend's boat, or go surf fishing, you need to be registered. If you only fish for other species, ie. fluke, seabass, bluefish, you do not have to be registered no matter how you fish or where. So you do not have to worry about anything on your fishing trips aboard the "Just One More". Just come as usual. It is very easy to register on line, takes about 2 minutes, and you print out your ID card right away. Go to: www.countmyfish.noaa.gov and follow the easy instructions. You can also call: 888-674- 7411 to do the same thing.

NEW WEB SITE !! The "Just One More" now has a brand new web site for your viewing pleasure. It is at the same location, www.just1morecharters.com . With this web site you will be able to view up to the minute fishing reports put up right after each trip. You will also see the photos related to that charter. It will be updated after each trip so you know when the bite is hot. You will even see any specials I am running on the front page!!  Another feature is in the lower left hand corner on the front  page you will be able to send in your deposit using your credit card and Pay Pal. This should really make things simpler. I still have to add some more pictures in the photo gallery section, but they will be added in time, and definately after each trip. You can also get directions to the marina now through Map Quest. This new web site is definately state of the art and I greately thank my new friend Rod for all his hard work!! Enjoy the site ! Capt. Rich Newallis Jr.

Sandy Hook - Raritan Bay Fishing Charters | Just One More

Sandy Hook Striped Bass
The "Just One More" is a full time Sandy Hook & Raritan Bay Charter Boat taking out private parties of one to six anglers.

Starting in April and running into July we fish primarily for Striped Bass. Depending on the month we chum up the striped bass using clams for bait. As the waters warm, we switch over to chunking bunker and fishing live bunker.

Bluefish start to show up in Sandy Hook and Raritan Bays in very late April and early May. They always seem to be present on striped bass trips in May and June. Once the striped bass run slows down in early July, we fish for fluke, bluefish, and sea bass.

Trophy Doormat Fluke, fishing the deep waters with large baits and jigs.

Non stop action with slammer bluefish begins the same time and chumming off shore produces the best catches.
Late July and early August we start fishing for weakfish in the back bay using sand worms and artificials.
August, September, and early October we go a little farther offshore and chum up the false albacore and bonito. These little tunas are great fun on light tackle and fly rods.

The middle of September finds us pursuing the striped bass again. From casting to the working birds, to eeling deep channels, to trollling and any combination of the above.

By the middle of November, we start fishing for blackfish on the rock piles and artificial reefs.

We also offer "open boat trips" for the angler who cannot get a whole group together to charter themselves. Bring a family member or friend and you will be paired up with other fishermen with like interests in fishing. These trips always seem to produce a nice catch and new friends. Email us to get on the "open boat" list.

The "Just One More" always welcomes families and beginners alike. Professional instruction is given "on the job" in a relaxed atmosphere for those needing a pointer or two.  You will always receive the best service. Welcome aboard, and looking forward to fishing with you in the future !

Capt. Rich
